Mattelyn Tharpe

Mattelyn Tharpe joined the firm at the beginning of 2015 and works in the firm’s commercial department.  Mattelyn received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Financial Investments and Bachelor of Science Degree in Real Estate with a minor in U.S. History in 2010 from the University of South Carolina.  She graduated from the Georgia State University College of Law with honors in 2014.  Ms. Tharpe was a Cooper Scholarship recipient and on the SEC Academic Honor Roll for four years.  She was also a four-year Letterman of the University of South Carolina Swim Team and President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  While attending the Law School, Ms. Tharpe was a member of Moot Court Board and coached the Duberstein Moot Court Competition’s National Championship team in her third year. Her published works include “Taking Care of Business: Bylaw Waivers of the Right to File,” XXXII Am. Bankr. Inst. Journal 7, 34-35, 62, August 2013.  Prior to joining the firm, she worked as special assistant district attorney in Whitfield County. She also interned with the Federal District Court and Bankruptcy Court in Atlanta and worked on a large project with the Georgia Department of Transportation. Ms. Tharpe’s practice emphasis is in the areas of Business Litigation and Transactions, Banking and Finance Law, Local Government Law, and Utility Law.
